“The Tsunashima Hot Spring Meeting!” A report from the historical Tsunashima hot springs, where we honour its achievements in this finale gathering.
I wonder if you knew there was a place near Tokyo city central, where you can reach out to Japanese culture and enjoy the hot springs with local genres, such as idol, pop and club.
From the Tokyu Toyoko line, Tsunashima Station, it takes around three minutes walk to get to the “Tsunashima Radium hot spring, Tokyo garden.” For those who have an interest and knowledge in Japanese idols and club music, the “Tsunashima hot spring”, is a well renowned special place.
Tsunashima used to be a prosperous hot spring town, however, now in the vicinity of Tsunashima Station, the “Tsunashima radium hot spring Tokyo garden” is sadly the only place left.
As it was only around 20 minutes when taking the Toyoko line from Shibuya, there were a lot of fans found the location attractive.
Taking advantage of this great location, over the last few years, music events had often been held.
Bringing the indoor music festival, in which the event takes place at the banquet area of the hot spring. Enjoying the music in a friendly atmosphere was a unique experience to be seen at a hot spring venue.
However, with a little under 70 years of history, Tsunashima hot spring will be closed due to the construction in front of Tsunashima Station.
Due to urban developments, financial difficulties and ceasing the altercations of generations, many people feel unhappy about the closure of Tsunashima hot spring. One after another in the Tokyo metropolitan area, many hot springs and public baths are in the midst of being closed.
On the 10th May, 2015 and for this special occasion, I will deliver the heat for the last music event at the “Tsunashima hotspring meeting” held in the Tsunashima hot spring.
Special emotions were put in place at the last event to be held at the Tsunashima hot spring.
It’s 11:00am on event day at the Tsunashima hot spring.
In the relaxation area, many people were waiting for the doors to open.
Approaching curtain time, idol fans wearing colourful T-shirts are moving closer to the stage.
Three idol groups including, ”Maison book girl” “おやすみホログラム (Good night hologram)” and “BELLING girls heart”, started their live performances.
With a lovely dance, ”Maison book girl” provided a unique view of the world. “Good night hologram” performed powerful songs involving the audience, and “BELLING girls heart”, taking advantage of their large group, performed a formation dance that included knife throwing and stabbing vegetables. All three groups provided a striking impression to the audience.

The audience who full of energy, leaned forward and encouraged the idols by calling and chanting after them.
Due to the location of Tsunashima hot spring which is surrounded by residential areas, all windows at the banquet hall were closed preventing sound leakage. However the temperature now rose in proportion to the climax of the audience.
DJs and other live performances were raising the temperature further. Then as the finale approached, there was an overflow of tears as the audience became so emotional. (Read more)
At the main hall, the fans were passionately interacting with the idols, whilst next door, the DJ was performing his set. Shaking their bodies in tune to the music, demonstrated a different excitement and enthusiasm from those at the main venue.
After the idols’ final live performance, the windows were opened and a pleasant breeze came in.
Enjoying a drink, with food the participants brought in by themselves.
Next to the standard menu of the food section at the hot spring and suggesting how generous they were, was a poster that read, “We can prepare variety of food!”.
Expressing their feelings by drawing, participants connect with an ink brush at the calligraphy booth.
Each of the calligraphy works will be mounted on the wall to exhibit the participants artistic emotions.
Since this was the last music event at Tsunashima hot spring, there were lots of warm messages written about this historical venue.
The main stage moved into the afternoon session and Setagaya PinponZ, Chimidoro and Butterfly Under Flaps made their performances.
Unlike the stage of idols, the audience was now enjoying the stage performance whilst sitting on the Tatami mattress.
Setagaya PinponZ provided a talk and play performance, whilst Chimidoro entertained the audience with his rap.
As Butterfly Under Flaps sang some emotional rap, a unique scene occurred where a child became entranced in their performance. This would become a special moment at this event.
Following on, three further bands, “tonya_harding”, “ Un Amin” and “The Screen Tones” appeared on the stage. With a refreshing sound, ”tonya_harding”, passionately sang the cover of, “Isn’t She Lovely” by Stevie Wonder. “Un Amin” showed off their music taste with an Asian view of the world and performed, ”ジャイアントパンダにのってみたい (I want to ride on the giant panda)”, in which the audience joined in and fully enhanced the unity of the venue.
Kusumi Masayuki made drafts of popular animations such as “花のズボラ飯 (Hana no Zubora-Meshi)” and “孤独のグルメ (Kodoku no Gourmet).” A cartoonist and musician, he is in charge of the music used in TV dramas. He leads The Screen Tones and performed songs used in the drama, “Kodoku no Gourmet.”
All participants were enjoying a variety of inspiring songs and stood up.
As the event was ending, the management from Tsunashima hot spring made some comments.
He thanked everybody who had helped to organise the Tsunashima hot spring meeting. He suggested that in five years after the construction work is scheduled to end, he would like to resume the hot spring. At this point, some participants shed their tears due to their strong fondness for the Tsunashima hot spring.
DJ CARP played to the venue, “Ride On Time” and “歩いて帰ろう (Let’s go to walk home!)” Whilst being wrapped with a large chorus of attendees, the last Tsunashima hot spring meeting was ending.
Due to the construction work, Tsunashima hot spring will soon be demolished. In five years time, let’s look forward in hope to the day when you can bathe again. Let’s hum patiently whilst taking a shower.
