Great article. While I admit you’ve made some very good points, the sad fact remains that most people don’t want others to understand their point. They just want you to agree with it. Immediately, absolutely and without any kind of hesitation. Anything less and you’re already one of the “Other Side”.
And speaking from experience here, but most attempts at hearing the other side out simply make you seem condescending, or give the impression that you’re trying to make them look like fools (especially if you do it in the presence of a crowd). You know it’s a real tragedy of our world when even honest and open-minded curiosity is looked at with hostility and suspicion.
