We Need More Wild Huntresses Today
tl;dr Bringing people together is beautiful, but I wish we could see more media that truly can tackle creating intra-happiness rather than inter-happiness.
When I was a kid, I loved stories. From Harry Potter, to Captain Underpants, to Frog and Toad. Reading was magic, and it still is (although nowadays is spent reading the almost continuous election cycle). But lately there’s been a story that have been crossing my mind lately…
When Artemis asked for a favor from her dad Zeus.
Artemis, who is the goddess of the hunt, childbirth, and protector of young women, asked her father one day for a single favor, she asked him never to be wed to a man.
As a child who had little concepts of marriage/commitment, it wasn’t a relatable very request. But as I grew up, I recognized that Artemis knew herself from a very young age. She grew into a huntress who traveled the world and found love in her freedom, her hunting friends, and her no-strings connected life. And because of this passion and love for her freedom, as well as protecting the freedoms of others, she was highly venerated.
But back to the present, it seems that our venerations have changed. Where do women find other Artemis idols (honestly it’s a good question since I’m a man). Does our society’s “magnetic” need to bring individuals together end up bringing more harm than good (yes, I’m thinking about Ross/Rachel)?
Instead I hope that the future for both men and women can find idols who achieve self-awareness, or obtain some semblance of peace in chaos.
Anyways, coffee-shop rant over. Happy Weekend!
