Researchers and practitioners intererested in geography of health, social dynamics, economics, and everything in between are always interested in using data to study health outcomes. If one can create proxies for health, and map them on to geographical units, one could ask important questions such as:

a) How does health of an area relate with its socio-economic conditions?

b) Are there any temporal trends or periodicities in certain health outcomes?

c) What is the relationship between health indicators from the real world and the signals obtained from online data source like social media (e.g. as seen in this paper: http://social-dynamics.net/docs/icwsm-21.pdf

After 2.5 years of association with Nokia Bell Labs, I have decided to move on to do something else. I will be moving into a more product oriented data science role at the Expedia Group, from a blue sky research role at Bell labs.

The legacy of Bell Labs

Working with such a stellar organization and its brilliant people was truly enriching in so many ways. But it was equally an excercise in self awareness. And the greatest outcome of this excercise, to me, was the awareness of the costs of being on the fence. Let me explain

In the vibrant chaos of the London tech week, we were happy to witness an important panel discussion at one of the Deepmind offices. AI and the NHS: Forging a Healthy Future was an interesting event, bringing together panelists from some of the most important stakeholders in the vison for AI and health care sector in the UK. This event brough home the most glaring challenges and possible solutions as they exist in 2019. The panelists involved two representatives from the NHS-X (Jess Morley, Technology Adviser, NHS- X, Dr. Indra Joshi, Digital Health & AI Clinical Lead, NHS England) which…

Trying my hands on (live-ish) blogging. Will try to summarise European symposium on Societal challenges on Computational social science (day 2 ) and databeers london meetup for month of Nov

Homophily Explains Perception Biases in Social Networks:

  • Perception bias is facilitated by homophily in social networks
  • Filter bubbles and Majority illusion prime examples of perception bias
  • Homopily results in Clustering in society which can result in sampling perception biases
  • Quantification of Individual level and group level perception bias

ComSocCap: Communitiy based model for social capital analysis:

  • Social capital defined in two sections: Bridging capital, Bonding capital
  • Advance structuring of social capital using these two dimensions
