What Do Creative Companies Do Differently?
Forward-thinking companies like Google have became famous for their ability to foster the highest levels of happiness, innovation, loyalty, and productivity in their employees with their unique corporate cultures. But what makes these companies so different from all the rest? What do creative companies do differently from everyone else that makes them so efficient in maintaining creative employees, who are known to be difficult to keep in an office culture?
A creative office environment is in many ways very different from the typical office, and could very well shock some of those accustomed to quiet cubicles with black, white, and grey accents all around.
Creative companies tend to incorporate splashes of color all throughout their workspaces, with interesting artwork and artistic accents used through much of their office design. They also make sure to provide plenty of spaces with comfortable seating, and may even offer quiet rooms with soft lighting and more relaxed seating for employees that just need to get some quiet time to think or unwind.
Most importantly, many have let go of the old cubicle style work environment, making way for open, clustered desks for teams and lots of natural sunlight through lots of windows allowing everyone to be inspired by their outside view.
Creative companies don’t just decorate differently for their office employees, but they also incorporate that same kind of relaxed, quirky attitude in their corporate culture and policies. Casual dress codes are an imperative for creative companies to uphold; an uncomfortable employee is not very well inspired to create and innovate.
Schedules are often flexible, with remote work options available and a minimum amount of mandatory office time every week. Ample paid time off and holiday time are offered as well, to ensure employees are well rested throughout the year.
Another thing that creative companies do differently from others is creating and fostering a fierce company culture. They accomplish this through hosting fun company events both during and after work, team building retreats, team based competitions at work, charity drives and events, and even monthly pep rallies to help cheer on the company as a team. They may also encourage employees to show off their company’s logo and colors through offering them plenty of stylish promotional goodies.
Creative companies also show a vested interest in the physical and emotional health of their employees through offering extras such as gym time, yoga, meditation, and counseling services. These companies know that through supporting the health and well being of their employees they are making them happier and more productive. Creative companies overall simply make their employees as comfortable and happy as possible so they can put their full focus and energy into doing what they love to do: create.
They build a fun, inspiring office that is fit for any kind of mood an employee may be in so they can continue to get through their work days as comfortably (and productively) as possible, and give their employees plenty of options on where and when they want to work so they can adjust their schedule to fit their own optimum time and place of productivity. To sweeten the pot up some more, they show they care about their employees physically and emotionally while encouraging a team oriented spirit, fostering their employees loyalty and trust. This is what creative companies do differently that creates happy, loyal, innovative, productive employees.
