Om Puri (1950–2017)

Om Puri was a well known international artist, with acclaimed roles outside of India, primarily in the U.K. and United States, who made his debut in the 1976 Marathi film Ghasiram Kotwal. Om Puri went on to star memorably in critically acclaimed films like Bhavni Bhavai (1980), Sadgati (1981), Ardh Satya (1982), Mirch Masala (1986) and Dharavi (1992). Puri was awarded the National Award for Best Actor for his role of police officer who revolts against cultural and political persecution. Another memorable role was in Gulzar’s Maachis, where we plays the character driven by ideology and negative shades.
