A New Beginning: WebNovel Writing?

It’s been a long time since I’ve started writing stories, and maybe in the midst of Real Life™, I lost my touch with my inner wordweaver. But of course, that itch of mine to actually spin words into live existences grows with every passing day, so maybe I -should- restart efforts into writing my own.

A cold-footed start

Under a pen name, I have started writing a bit of stories, albeit fanfiction, about Haruhi Suzumiya and Remnant Knights. Though the world has been fleshed out (in the case of the former) or that the world was built up (in the case of Remnant Knights), I’d daresay that the inspiration that pushed me has long gone — I can no longer imitate the writing style, perspective, and point of view of these works. Trying to revive these has given me a sense of dissonance with what the original voice of these pieces had.

I cannot write as I had done before.

Refresh and Restart

For the past years I have dived deep into the realm of Light Novels, both written in Japanese (translated into English, of course) and of those written in English. I can say that many of these works are well-done. Some of which, may have earned the ire of critics, and still some, may be buried under a mountain of works — a hidden gem waiting to be found.

These, I think, have driven me to start anew and begin serious research for building a world from which where my new story would begin. I plan for it to have intermingling points of view, with characters as gray as ever: each of them is a protagonist in his own story. Though they may clash most of the story, my aim is to flesh these conflicts out and bring them the humanity they deserve. All in the middle of something that is, somewhat, grand in scale and movement.

OK, so enough of this brand dump. Let’s see if I can keep this up in the coming days. Or weeks. Or months even. I have long wanted to be a creator of a world in my own right… and I really should put a deadline to that.

See you in a couple of days! :)

P.S.: On what web platform should I place my work? Should I publish it here, in Medium? Or should I place it on a platform I own? Or maybe join in on an existing one (tapas.io, fiction.net, or honeyfeed.fm)? Post your thoughts!
