Twitter DevelopHER2021 India
Twitter DevelopHER program is a two-day interactive program for second and third-year computer science/engineering majors focused on professional and technical development including networking, personal branding, resume writing and coding challenges.
This is the second time this program has happened in India. It is basically a diversity program for 2023 and 2024 batch girl students for the year 2021.
About 30 girls among 9000+ applicants were selected this year for this program which was held virtually.
I got to know about the program through LinkedIn and applied for this in August 2021. This is an article describing my experience.
It is an off-campus opportunity and the registrations open around August. They asked simple questions like basic info, our Twitter and LinkedIn handle and resume in the application form.
After around 2–3 weeks we got an email confirming our selection and further procedures. Succeeding the selection letter they sent us the program agenda and added us to their slack channel two days before the program. We got to interact with the amazing girls selected. Moreover, we interacted with twitter’s full-time employees, HR and others who volunteered for this program.
The sessions were for nearly 5–6 hours per day. There were welcome notes from senior leaders and talks about Twitter’s culture and what work they do on a day-to-day basis. The sessions were very engaging and interactive. The team was welcoming and conducted fun activities to keep us entertained.
The resume building and guide to technical interviewing session gave us great insights as budding women in tech. There was a team coding challenge in which 30 students were divided into 6 teams each assisted by a mentor who is an engineer at Twitter.
According to me, the most exciting part was the networking session at the end where we interacted with the engineering and recruiting team of Twitter India. We were given time to talk with any person one-to-one to gain insights about their work and experience.

Tips
->From my experience, I saw that the girls selected were highly active in STEM. Some of them were WTEF scholars, some had a great experience in open source contributions, some were Google step interns and each one of them undeniably deserved to be there.
->Updated Resume and LinkedIn profile act as a cherry on the cake while applying.
