Crescent’s adult sailing lessons begin May 13

The boats are launched and Crescent Sail and Yacht Club is ready for their adult sailing lessons season.

Crescents’ lessons are open to the public. Typically students learn about the lessons via word of mouth or a sign that’s posted at the club’s gate, said Loretta Rehe.

This will be Crescent’s 13th year of providing the adult lessons in Flying Scot sand a Cal 20. There’s room for 36 students.

Cost is $480 for the 12-week class.

The program starts May 13 with a welcome dinner. Shore classes will be held Monday, Tuesda and Thursday of the following week. A swim test will be done Memorial Day weekend in the Grosse Pointe North High School pool. On the water lessons will begin June 1 or 2.

Crescent also has a junior sailing program for kids and last year started a recreational junior sailing program for kids who want to sail, but aren’t interested in racing, Rehe said.

The junior sailing programs are also open to non-members.
