Mills Race fatality still unidentified

The body of a Mills Race sailor who fell overboard near the shore in Catawba Island Township has been recovered.

Authorities were notified of a sailor overboard about 1:40 a.m. this morning. The body was found about 6 a.m.

The identity of the lost sailor and the details of what caused the sailor to fall overboard have not been released.

A reported 43 boats dropped out of the race, which had 30 knot winds on the nose.

Despite the heavy sailing, Michigan boats took 20 of the 48 flags awarded in the 2015 Invitational Mills Trophy Race on Lake Erie. You could say our sailors held their own — representing 41% of the fleet and taking 41% of the flags.
