What are the advantages of FUE hair transplants compared to other methods?
The advantage of the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method is the minimal scarring after the transplant (approximately 0.7–1mm).
To illustrate, the scalp graft area is like thick woods where 20–25% of trees (hair follicles) were felled (extracted). Unlike the strip method, where a strip of skin is removed from the back of the head, the FUE method does not cause a loss of sensation in the scalp. These issues related to the strip method tend to alleviate but it can take years. The FUE does not involve a direct excision into the skin preventing scarring in the donor area as well as numbness and pain straight after the procedure. The FUE method does, however, take longer compared to the strip method, as individual hair follicles need to be harvested.
