I would say in my opinion, this piece starts with race as a reference point. It’s a true story from my childhood.
It then discusses class, other groups of people, and the restaurant industry.
The call to action is to the industry and for open minds.
I actually choose not to reward poor service or try to overcompensate for what people may or may not think. That’s a difference from how my dad responded. But that doesn’t mean the conflict or the dilemma isn’t there. Thank you responding. -Sam
