What We Should Learn, About Being Successful, From Steve Harvey

On December 20, 2015, Steve Harvey announced the wrong 2015 Miss Universe on live television:

He apologized on air and went to Twitter. Unfortunately, he had misspellings in both country’s names:

Many memes were created and people, on and off social media, had a field day. However, during Super Bowl 50, Steve Harvey is in a T-mobile commercial:

He was able to turn an unfortunate failure into a success. There are three things, about being successful, we can learn from Mr. Harvey: learn how to laugh at yourself; keep moving forward; and know your worth.

1. Learn how to laugh at yourself - as time went on and the dust settled from the 2015 Miss Universe mishap, I'm sure Steve Harvey came to the point that he was able to laugh at himself. In life, people are going to either laugh with you or at you. If you don't take things too seriously and learn to chuckle at yourself, then people laughing at you won't affect you at all.

2. Keep moving forward - Steve Harvey could not have been successful in comedy, television, radio, writing books and life in general, if he allowed his failures to keep him from moving forward. To be successful, one must deal with failure. It's inevitable. If we played the game of life focused on not losing, we've already lost. No one is perfect. A positive mental outlook is to focus on winning not on not losing. There's a difference.

3. Know your worth - after the 2015 Miss Universe mishap, if the thought, "I'll never work again," ever came into Mr. Harvey's mind, I'm sure he didn't entertain it long. Quite frankly, he knew his worth. Success is a by-product of a winning mindset. The person that believes in him or herself, and is confident, will cause others to believe in them too. In life, you don't get what you want, you get what you picture:

“Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” - Napolean Hill
Mr. Harvey, I applaud you for showing us how to come back from a tough mistake and turn it into an undeniable triumph.
