Sam: Would you really say the above to the families of Illya or Faigy?

Nina, I get what you’re saying. But I also know what its like to be in their shoes. I’ve failed, and miserably at that.

They weren’t accountable just to their investors, or themselves. They had people relying on them for food, shelter and basic necessities. You’re talking about an emotional soylent that might’ve kept them together when everything else is falling apart.

What I said in my response was that people who are held accountable to that degree simply do not realise that they need it. I ignored my family and was as you pointed out, a pretty shitty human being during my time with startups.

Do you believe its a fair world to those people? To the ones who chose to end it because they saw no other choice? I don’t think so. I don’t believe it is fair to anyone. I empathise greatly with their families, because my friends and family stopped me in time.

I’ve seen horrible investors turn their founders into monsters by throwing the weight of the world on their shoulders, knowing full well that the immutability of things will force them to work hard or step aside.

Nina, all I’m saying is that to a lot of people, the bottomline is the only thing that matters. For all their talk of people-care, emotional intelligence and what-have-you’s, the only thing they genuinely give a fuck about is the bottomline.

Its easier to look at it as a pessimist. Do you blame me?
