~ Design Sketches #2 ~
Hello, everyone!
Just another quick update to share some more design sketches for concepts of the Pod Bay Doors’ website! Also, I’ll briefly have a quick word about the design of the pages.
Design /
Philosophy /
The general design philosophy I’m aiming for with the website is to keep things clean and uncluttered, and also making the pages of the whole site essentially a button click away from one another. This streamlines navigation for users, and hopefully provides an easy-to-use experience.
Colour Schemes /
The colouring scheme I will be using will be one of dark background colours - blacks and greys, mostly - with lighter coloured text for easy reading. I find this kind of colour scheme is MUCH friendlier on the eyes than a white background/black text combination, as the darker colours are not as harsh on the eyes during extended browsing sessions.
Social Media Integration Pane /
A social media pane will be located on the left of the all the website’s pages, bar the homepage itself, which will have its own feed designs. I feel that having a static window dedicated to the feeds which I will be looking to implement for the website - Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram - will keep the users of our teen/young adult target market engaged no matter what page they are currently browsing
And now, onto the sketches!
Photo Gallery /

The general design concept behind the photo gallery page is to have a scrollable “wall” of sorts which archives the band’s photos that they upload.
It’d be great if I could get some Instagram connectivity happening here, so that each photo they upload to their Instagram account could be automatically added to this album here.
Touring Dates /

The touring dates page will focus on delivering a clear schedule by which fans are able to see when their favorite band will be touring their city/country next!
Additionally, this would be the perfect page to get some integration to the booking website bandsintown.com happening.
Media /

My vision for the Media page is to have a grid with 4 squares which house media players and playlists for the band’s music (complete with Soundcloud integration) and their videos.
The layout of the grid will have the music playlist in the top left square, with the player itself in the top right square; the video media will be in the bottom half of the square, with the video player (to be run by HTML 5 encoding) in the bottom right square and the video playlist in the bottom left square, respectively.
Just to be a bit different, really!
Merchandise /

Because every band needs merchandise, right?!
The merchandise page will have a scrollable square window within it, so users may browse through the different items that the band wishes to sell - from posters, to clothes, to signed CD’s.
To make browsing categories easy, the top of the merchandise widow will have options to choose between categories (with those outlined in the sketch placeholders at the moment).
And that’s all for now!
Thanks for reading, and I’ll catch you in the next post! :)
