Hey everyone! Today I’m going to be talking to you about Instagram privacy settings to help you customize your profile the way you want it. If you’ve read the last few posts, you would know I am CRAZY about Instagram.
Let’s begin! (screen shots are from my Iphone, but it should be similar on other phones too)
A —Block users from seeing your profile and Instagram story!
HOW TO: First go on the desired profile/user that you wish to block. Click the “…” on the top right corner of the profile. Then, this list will pop up and you need to click “block” and “hide you story”. One thing you need to know is that if you are currently mutually following each other- blocking someone will force the both of you to unfollow each other and both profiles will look “private” to each other. Meaning- if they can’t see you, you can’t see them either.
B — Maintaining your replies!
HOW TO: In order to get to your story settings, go to your profile, hit the gear icon at the top right corner, and select “story settings” under the subheading “account”. You are able to control who can reply to your stories. In this instance, I have it set as OFF. Also, here you will find a list of people you have hidden your Instagram story from, as well as control who is able to reply to your stories.
C — Deciding whether to keep users blocked?
HOW TO: To access the list of users you have blocked previously, hit the gear icon at the top right corner, and select “blocked users” under the subheading “account”. Here, you are able to keep track of everyone you have blocked- giving you a change to unblock them if you wish later on.
D — Private your account!
HOW TO: First go to your profile, hit the gear icon at the top right corner, and select “Private Account” under the subheading “account”. This image is showing privacy is ON. This means no one can see anything on your profile unless they follow you- and you get to decide whether to accept them or not! However, they will be able to see your display picture and description/bio.
E — Avoid spam/misc. messages!
HOW TO: On your home page (where you see the feed of people you follow), there is a paper airplane icon on the top right corner. Click that and you will see current messages as well as the option to see message requests. You have the ability to open and read it without notifying them that you’ve opened/read it! (AMAZING) After opening it, you can then decide whether you want to reply back- or to completely decline it.
F — Turn on/on linked accounts and share settings!
HOW TO: First go to your profile, hit the gear icon at the top right corner, and select “Linked Accounts” under the subheading “settings”. This screen will show up and allow you to connect to different platforms you may want to share you picture to. Be aware! If you do not want any of your Instagram photos being uplaoded to anywhere else, make sure you do not link your accounts! There is also a shortcut to share your photo during the process of uploading your picture. Simply leave them blank if you do not wish to share, or link your account if you wish you do!
