How Does It Feel To Be Legally Challenged?

Not good.

My wife grounds me and reminds me why I hold public office. “Thoughtful consideration to all issues. Be prayerful, be kind, be YOU.”

She’s right because there’s a lot of negative emotions associated with this. Anger, shock, disbelief, anger, doubt, disappointment, did I mention anger?

My business community can relate it to when you do a good job for a good client and then comes a negative Yelp review that stuck.

I’m reminded of the comedian Chris Rock when he jokes about getting pulled over and the officer accuses him of stealing his own car, “Maybe I did steal this car?”

You doubt yourself, for a split second, and start thinking of everything that led up to this situation searching for an answer. Then you realize, “I did nothing wrong.”

The politicos and even the elections office assure you that this happens all the time. ‘It’s less expensive to challenge the signatures of a candidate and have them either withdraw from the race or knock them off the ballot then to spend tens of thousands of dollars in a campaign only to possibly lose?’

None of that makes me feel better.

Since I’ve been on the board I’ve been sued a number of times but that was as a board member and we have representation so I never worried.

This is personal. I am the sole defendant.

There’s a lot more details to the story but how does it feel to be legally challenged?

Disheartening.

(Did I mention this is an UNPAID position?)
