[Necrosarium: Exclusive Interview for Sanctuary of Mana]

Intro

Welcome back to my Medium! This time i come to present to you another kind of artist that i believe will interest you as much as it did to the team of Sactuary of Mana. It took sometime but finally we got the mysterius KASUMI from brand NECROSARIUM with us and we are very happy for this.

KASUMI-san, is one young , talented artist creating gothic and punk accessories that catch the eye of those with good taste in the style right?

~Thats right!!

Who is the girl behind the creator? Where were you born and how was your life before you start your projects?

Necrosarium/Interview for Sanctuary of Mana/2015

~I was born in South Louisiana, but I’m a very nomadic soul. I am moving around all the time, I have been all over the West side of the United States and into the southern states.
From as far back as I can remember I was always fascinated by the Gothic arts. Long before I ever started the Necrosarium brand, I was studying a wide range of various sciences. Even now I am continuing my studies in both astronomy and theoretical physics.

Who inspired you to start this project? How long you work on it since the beginning?

~I’ve been into gothic and visual kei style for the past eleven years. From the moment I was introduced to the Visual Kei scene; old-school VK heavily influenced my style at the time, it is still a strong influence even now.

…visual kei is behind almost everything isn’t it (笑)

How long does it take to reach from inspiration to creation?

~The time it takes to make my accessories really varies. Each piece takes anywhere from a few hours to couple days, depending on the supply and my personal drive. I’ve been fighting a mental illness for the past decade, but it never stops me from doing my work and creating for Necrosarium.

Do you design in hand? Can you show us some previous sketches if thats possible?

~I don’t usually hand-draw any of my designs out, it has to be in my head and never comes out perfectly as planned, I mostly just do what feels right when the supplies are near, and everything falls into place. The process is very organic and flows naturally. I do draw but never for my accessories.

….hmm lets change a little bit!

What is the creator doing in her free time?

~Even in my free time I still work some way or another. I never stop thinking or planning. It’s certainly an ongoing process and my brain never shuts off. NECROSARIUM is all I have that’s really mine so I take great pride in my work. However, my future dream is to open my very own bar!

…aha lets drink to that! (笑)

Visual Kei

Are you cooperating with other creators like you?

~I have a strong drive to start cooperating with others more often! Artists and supporters alike! It’s been really rough for me to do, I have always been very shy, and struggling financially. I am working hard to get more financially stable, as well as working on my shyness so you will see me working with many others soon!

I feel you on that! Speaking of artists..

Rumours speak about Dada from velvet eden being your customer also. Is it true or its a kind of cooperation?

Necrosarium/Interview for Sanctuary of Mana/2015

~I have indeed worked with Dada san of “Velvet Eden” before! I made some custom pieces for a music video of his and also one of his photoshoots. Dada san has always been an influence to me, it was such a great pleasure working with him.

I need to keep a closer eye to Dada-san i think!

Are you aware of Moi meme Moitie and Moi dix Mois? Would you be able combine your work with Manas gothic lolita brand and if so how you imagine the perfect coordination of yours and his?

~Moi Meme Moitie was one of the first brands I fell in love with, and is still one of my favorite Gothic Lolita brands. Their dramatic style was one of the first I had tried when I was much younger, and personally I’m looking to get back into it again! I work with a lot of red and gold, but when I have a chance at silver and blue themes, Moi meme Moitie is the image and style I would like to imagine wearing it with. The designs are a perfect match to the Moi meme Moitie brand.

So What kind of people does the creator admire? Which of them you d like to collaborate with?

~I admire artists who never stop working to achieve their dreams, whether they’re working towards a goal, or they’re just living their everyday life in it. It’s hard to say “who” I want to collaborate with. I’m always looking to work with anyone else who shares a passion in their work! I would be open to a collaborative project if anyone is willing to reach out and contact me directly. My information is below. Thank you in advance.

Whats your collaborations up to now? What are your dreams about your projects in the future?

~Some key figures who i’ve been worn by is Pan-d-ra, HimemaniK, Jet Set Gypsies, Velvet Eden, and Kat von D! In the future, I’d love to spread out into the punk style more as well. I’m running a project called MAZO★PUNK, it’s my personal style, although it’s very small right now, it is a growing project. My biggest inspiration to keep me working hard is Kenzi of アンチフェミニズム and The Dead Pop Stars, so i’d love to do more with him and other artists who follow a similar path!

One last question please: what would you say to someone who makes a huge effort to remain on top? Whats your inspiring quote about yourself and the newest artists?

~My thoughts or a few words? Hmm…
To anyone who’s looking to get and stay on top: Always work hard and do what you want! Don’t always try to follow people. Even if times are hard. NECROSARIUM was created by someone who started with nothing, still has nothing, but I will always have this brand. Don’t ever think you can’t do it because of the situation.
