I guess you’re too young to remember the last one of those we had; and it wasn’t the first. There have been MANY “robust” anti-war movements in America. FDR had to let Pearl Harbor happen because of the 1 going on in the late ’30s and early ’40s here, to drag the US into the war he and Churchill and Stalin wanted America in. I missed that 1, but was around for the last 1 and it ALMOST came to serious bloodshed right in downtown DC! I’m talking on the scale of a full on massacre.
SO, no, I really don’t think that’s what America needs. Having served in the military, albeit as a non-combatant, I’m NOT really a fan of war; but there are times when if you aren’t willing to fight for what you believe against an aggressor, then you will either fall for everything, including enslavement, or you will die. It’s that simple.
Afghanistan is Vietnam redux; the latter was won at Tet and then THROWN away, along with tens of thousands of American, allied and Vietnamese lives by politicians! That’s what’s going on in Afghanistan today as well, and what happened in Iraq too. IF and WHEN a war is engaged, it must be fought full on to WIN, or don’t even bother going at all. War isn’t pretty or nice and it shouldn’t be. Neither should the serious decisions be left to people who have never had any “skin in” that particular game. If you want to change something, get an amendment going to add a requirement for the office of POTUS/CIC; that he/she MUST have served on active duty at least 1 hitch in 1 of our armed forces, including the Coast Guard. Those who have been there aren’t so eager to wish it on others.
