My youngest sibling identified as a “trans” person; he was born a boy, I know that for a fact as I used to change his diapers. However, between the ages of 3 and 5 years, he was molested regularly by our father, who had moved on from me, lest I become pregnant and a pregnant adolescent in ’50s suburbia wasn’t easily explained, let alone acceptable to the neighbors. That’s another story. The fact is that familial circumstances compounded that molestation in such a way that taught my sibling, in his mind, that somehow girls were better than boys. What he learned was in error, but it didn’t stop it and eventually he underwent the full reassignment. But, as with most such persons, the behaviors are hyper-effiminate and not natural at all. I love my sibling as I always did, but I have never agreed with his choice; and had I had an opportunity to speak with the psychiatrist deciding whether he should go through with the surgery, it may not have happened at all, as I know things about his early years that he doesn’t remember, and things about the family structure prior to his birth even, that played into what happened in those early years of his life. Trans is a mental issue, not a physiologically based situation.

People in such mental states do not belong in the military; and they certainly should not be undergoing transition on taxpayers’ money, let alone while in service. The function of the military, in which I have also served, is to defend the nation, NOT to provide a structure to support social engineering, and provide free medical care to the mentally unstable. It’s that simple. There are specific careers/jobs in which persons who suffer delusional thinking simply do not belong, as they are unsuited to such positions; there are some in which they do not belong because they’re unable or unwilling to adhere to specific conditions/rules attached to the positions, and bring in ideologies that are in opposition to the goals of the given institution. Freedom of association is still part of the 1st A, on that front; but the military with its specific and fairly rigid needs and duties is definitely NOT the place for those unwilling or unable to conform to the demands.
