Contrary to popular belief, DAX statements are not only useful for complex calculations. In fact, when utilized correctly, they can also contribute to enhancing the visual appeal of your dashboards. Below, I have compiled a list of DAX statements that can be effectively employed to improve the aesthetics and creativity of your dashboard.

1. Create Custom Date Formats

(Click here) By using this feature, you can generate personalized date formats that match the visuals you select. For instance, opting for “Sept” instead of “September” in a bar chart can be more space-efficient.

2. Highlight the maximum value in a bar chart/any visual

(Click here) This will assist in presenting significant findings in a visually impactful way.

3. Display ratings/ranks in a star format (★)

(Click here) This enhances the appearance and aesthetic appeal of the dashboard, making it visually appealing.

4. Display up/down arrow indicators to display KPI trends (▲, ▼)

(Click here) This not only enhances the dashboard’s appearance but also communicates valuable insights in a visually comprehensible format.

5. Replacing the (blank) with a customized text

(Click here) This feature can eliminate various ambiguities related to values and enhance the dashboard’s visual appeal.
