The roles of manager and leader described here could easily be replaced with COO and CEO, respectively. The manager’s outlook is almost painted negatively, but without the manager the leader could get nothing done. Take it a few levels higher, you’ve got the balance between and visionary CEO and an execution-minded COO who knows how to get stuff done. Having the “manager” traits shouldn’t be painted so negatively. Without managers, leaders would have a much more difficult time mobilizing people for their vision while we all sat around wondering which conference room we were meeting in and if the time was for PST or EST ;)
