My parents turn 70 this year and are only working summers now. They retired from their traditional jobs 10 years ago, moved to the Czech Republic to teach English for three years and now are back in the US and have worked at various tourist destinations for the last seven years. The first year they worked at the Grand Canyon for eight months — from early spring to late fall. Since that first year they have slowly cut down on the number of months that “summer” means. This year they are in West Yellowstone (near the path of the eclipse!) and will only work for about five months. I feel like this model of slow-motion retirement is something that more and more people will do. Having a job sometimes makes the time that they are “full-time retired” much sweeter. It’s also easier on their bodies, and much less stressful. They plan on working summers for at least another few years.
