Why I will never buy an Amazon Kindle Again!

This post showcases my utter disappointment in one of the major e-commerce company which is renowned for its customer service but when it came to their own home grown product, Kindle, they turned out to be a major fail.

My kindle is around 2 years old and I managed to shatter the display while I was traveling. Having bought it from Amazon, I expected a good customer after sales service and as it turned out Amazon will provide top notch service for other products but not for a Kindle, that is made buy by them.

I was asked by the CS Kindle Team, to buy a new Kindle as mine had become obsolete.

Coming to think of it, I spent Rs. 6000 on this device and anything goes wrong within a year is fine, as the warranty covers it, but beyond that it’s a risk unless I buy an extended warranty costing Rs. 1000, that makes my total cost Rs. 7000 + other accessories.

With an ever changing tech in cell phones/tablets this is a risk we are willing to take but there are people who cannot keep replacing phones every year, we just can’t afford it but fortunately we have after sales so we can get the issues fixed, for example my phone (bought from Amazon) has been in the service center more that 3 times for various issue in the last 17 months and I have paid an amount to fix it after the warranty got expired but will I be able to do the same with the Kindle, I guess not.

So coming to the question, has Amazon failed me with its Kindle?

Yes, I feel disappointed for having bought one in the first place. I could have bought a tablet from Micromax or other such low cost brands that I would use as a book reader as I am sure I can get any problem fixed if there is something that goes bust.

Amazon has done a wonderful job making sure all my issues regarding products that turn out faulty after months of buying or products that failed to match expectations were either replaced or returned but with Kindle it failed and I am left with nothing but a device that needs to be dumped as garbage.

Will I stop purchasing from Amazon?

No, I will not — I have been and will be buying from Amazon (just ordered a pair of headphones) but I am never buying a Kindle until I see a strong after sales for issues like mine.

And since you go by the tag line, “Apni Dukaan” you can add a disclaimer like the real ones,

“Kindle once sold will not be taken back or replaced”
