“Give Cash, Not Food”

I work in the anti-hunger field, so it’s really exciting to me to see this discussed in pop culture. But I would also take his message one step further: the charitable sector is not going to end hunger, period. We must advocate to address the root causes of hunger and build a strong government safety net. Food distribution is set up to address emergency or temporary hunger needs; at most, it is a band-aid. The fact that people have to rely on it long-term speaks to a failure of our government to meet citizens’ basic needs.
