A message to anyone starting their own thing.

I decided to start selling my own greeting cards online around 6 months ago. I launched in January and to date have made around 130 sales. No way near enough to quit my job or gain people’s respect.

I distinctly remember the week my e-shop went live a colleague was flabbergasted as to why I hadn’t made 100s of sales already. I remember wanting to rip his face off and shout do you have any idea what you are talking about. In hindsight I realise of course he has no idea what he is talking about and if I’m honest the majority of people who have weighed in since have no clue either.

The reality is that unless someone is in it they won’t get it. People are not going to care about it as much as you want them to and no one will ever care as much as you. It doesn’t make them selfish, in fact it is probably selfish to expect them to.

The fact that no one seems to care is not a reason to stop. If anything it just means you have more to gain by powering on. I also want to commend you on having the balls to have actually started your own thing. I bet you have listened to countless people tell you their big ideas about how one day they’ll get into writing, or selling or art and they never do. If it was so easy, they would have all done it, whether your thing works out or not I respect the hell out of you for doing it.

If someone in your life could benefit from the above card you can buy it here.
