10 Trades That Should Happen Before the Deadline
The League has seen many memorable deals go down at the deadline over the years and 2016 promises to be no different. Who will be buyers? Who will be sellers? The next few hours will be telling. Looking at each franchise’s roster and outlook for the year, the Daily Tortugan staff analyzed the numbers and debated the needs of each franchise to come up with 10 deals that should happen before the trade deadline at 7:00 p.m. ET.
- Catahoulas Baseball Club trades Corey Kluber and Felix Hernandez to Saucy Tortugas for Dallas Keuchel and Reynaldo Lopez — These two teams have already made a deal this month so there is an existing relationship. As CBC continues to build to the future, the reigning AL Cy Young winner Keuchel brings a value price tag and Lopez is the type of live young arm that will excite fans for the next decade. With King Felix’s price tag outweighing his production and Kluber’s arm potentially giving in to fatigue and overuse, it’s a gamble for Saucy Tortugas but one they should reluctantly accept.
- Barto and Sons Baseball Co trades Jake Arrieta and Noah Syndergaard and Bryce Harper to Saucy Tortugas for Matt Kemp, Dallas Keuchel and Cam Bedrosian — Word on the street is that BSBC fans have grown weary of Harper’s off the field antics and inconsistent production. Kemp would bring stability to the roster and the excitement (once dated Rihanna) that has grown dry since BSBC has been missing since rostering a second child. Arrieta and Syndergaard have been steadily declining this season, but still may have something left in the tank to help a contending team. With Bedrosian in-tow, Barto fans can look forward to 40+ saves over the next decade, however sources say Saucy Tortugas management is reluctant to part ways with their stud closer of the future.
- Dilrose Apache trades Paul Goldschmidt and David Price to Saucy Tortugas for Fernando Rodney and Reynaldo Lopez — Dilrose Apache seems to be a team in limbo, dipping in the standings but not really selling the tradeable assets that helped put him in the lower third of The League. With that in mind, Lopez will give him the ace his team sorely needs and Rodney provides insurance for AJ Ramos to keep the franchise’s standing in the save category. Saucy Tortuagas mortgages their future to take on two high priced rentals for the stretch run. Win-win.
- Sir Hiss trades Tony Cingrani, Maikel Franco and Travis d’Arnaud to Dynasty Machine for Kris Bryant, Xander Bogaerts and Max Scherzer — With the League title already wrapped up for Dynatsy Machine they can look to build on their many league titles by adding young, up-and-coming players. Sir Hiss gets a short-term bump, but fails to live up to his “snake” moniker in this deal. Regardless, it’s obvious why both teams should pull the trigger.
- Lure of the Animal trades Jon Lester and Aroldis Chapman to Saucy Tortugas for Dallas Keuchel and Cam Bedrosian — Rostering too many players from a single team is walking a dangerous line in fantasy baseball, so The Lure can save themselves from trouble down the line by trading for two AL West stalwarts that will provide unparalleled production for years.
- RD izzo trades Tanner Roark to Barto and Sons Baseball Club for Marco Estrada — It’s so obvious we’re shocked that this deal hasn’t happened yet.
- FC Union Somerville trades the FC Union Somerville franchise name for something more clever involving the fact that he rosters both Chris Davis and Khris Davis — Could also consider incorporating Rajai Davis. Regardless, this move could help make FC Union Somerville great again!
- Dee’s Nuts trades Chris Sale and David Ortiz to Saucy Tortugas for Matt Kemp and Reynaldo Lopez — Who say’s no here? Ortiz’s retirement make him the player most likely to move at the deadline. Sale’s antics and downward trend give way to steadiness and promise in Kemp and Lopez.
- Blazin’ Buffalo Chickens trades Billy Hamilton and Carlos Carrasco to Saucy Tortugas for Dallas Keuchel and Travis Jankowski — A risk for Saucy Tortugas given Jankowski’s high OBP, but a risk they are willing to take to bring in Carassco for an end of season rental. The Buff Chix get the left-handed starter they’ve sorely needed and a high OBP base stealer to correct the damage done by Hamilton.
- Dynasty Machine trades Kris Bryant, Miguel Sano, Xander Bogaerts and Mookie Betts to Saucy Tortugas for Cam Bedrosian, Junior Guerra, Matt Kemp and Nate Jones — There is no way Dynasty Machine can afford to keep all of these players, so it makes sense for them to sell high before costs inevitably become a burden for whomever is owning these players. In exchange, they get a stabilizing force in Matt Kemp, the young arms needed to compete well into the future and Junior Guerra.
