Las Islas Galapagos
As a kid in school we must have heard about the famous English Naturalist called Charles Darwin, though many of us may not remember his name now. To put things to perspective: he was the person who studied and proposed “Theory of Evolution”. But this article is not going to be a boring apiece on Charles Darwin, Biology, Geology, Evolution or the expression of the Emotions of Man and Animals. No it is not about HMS Beagle, the ship travelled by Darwin on his conquest for knowledge. Yes we will have certain co-relations on our way till the end.
This article is about analogy between the Group of Islands off the coast of Ecuador-Las Islas Galapagos and our existential human world of human behaviour, emotions, trust, betrayal, powerplay, temperaments, self control, outbursts, anger, judgment, ethics, happiness, glee, understanding and many others. Its a place which takes mystery to its final frontier and holds the essence of wonder and discovery and amusement alike. These mysterious islands are cut by the imaginary lines called Equator in the middle. The islands possess the most diversified Flora and Fauna on the earth. Each island has its own species of reptiles, insects, birds and animals. Just by observing the shell of the tortoise, Darwin was able to identify which island the tortoise belonged to. Its a place where we can experience true form of mother nature. Similarly our world is most diversified place of the universe with each individual possessing its own set of thought process, understanding, maturity level, introspection of situations, power of evaluation, . Like the five fingers in our hands needs to be of different sizes for the hand to operate properly, for us to have proper grip of the objects, for us to hold the world in our hands. Similarly each and every human is different individual yet each one of us try to impose ourselves on others, we want every other person to think like us, to feel like us, to respond in a way we would like to hear and would be pleasing to our ears and satisfying to our own ego. Had all the species on Galapagos tried to superimpose its characters, appearance, genome to the other creature, would it have been so diversified as it is now, had all the species co-existed in so near vicinity.
There are Newtons in the world, who picked up the apple from the ground and discovered Gravity, and then there are others who pick the Apple and praise its colour. Who you think is the most wise and judicious one. The one who think with logic and science or the other who thinks with emotions. What if a fight erupts between the two on the topic of correctness of point of view. There are people who gaze on the open skies for hours and get immersed in the love of broken stars and pink rays and think and write the most beautiful proses ever written and then there are people who spend endless days on-board International Space Station and conducts experiments on microgravity and space environment research.
They say every island is a world in itself. In the islands, everything is special and attention is deserved everywhere. There is no place on earth that reveals the axiom quite like Galapagos. I would here like to prepose another self evident truth that every human is different. Why not accept him/her with all his perfections/imperfections. Things which are right to you may be wrong for others and vice versa. Why not co-exist with each other like the diversity on Galapagos, happy together and let another Darwin find the evolution of self happiness in a diverse and complex human world. Life is Galapagos and our journey through it HMS Beagle. Las Islas Galapagos.
