A wise person once said - “Want to be a hero of your own game? Then Build one of your own”

You are right. That wise person is me.

Welcome back! I am your Buddy and part time Parents’ disappointment, Sayan Bandyopadhyay. Today we will be talking about something which according to most of our parents is the biggest time pass. That is Games!

Everyone who loves gaming has at least thought of making one once in their life.Well most of the sophisticated ones need way more effort and also a team which contains not only a coder or an engineer, but also a designer, a planner and many more. So if you are thinking of making a game like call of duty or PUBG, let me tell you that while you are dreaming of making a game like that on your own, a huge team of people are working daily just for the maintenance of the game.

Well, don’t let your dreams crushed after reading that. Maybe not a game like call of duty, but you can still make 2D smalls games. They are easy to make. well much easier as now you have a friend called phaser!

Phaser is a free software 2D game framework for making HTML5 games for desktop and mobile. It is developed by Photon Storm. Its stable release was version 3.20.0 which was released 38 days ago, that is on 12th October 2019.

JavaScript is one of the most known languages now and it is easy to learn. Anyone who knows JavaScript and wants to build games, you are lucky to have Phaser now. Those who don’t, well they can still learn JS and then Phaser. If you are sincere enough and start learning now, you will end up making awesome games like a professional out of it at the end of 2020.

Now here are some frequently asked questions and their answers :-

  1. Can we build games like call of duty here?
  2. Why should we not use Unreal Engine?
  3. Why not use Unity instead?
  4. BuildBox is now free. So why use Phaser?
  5. What are the prerequisites to learn Phaser?

Answers :-

  1. The answer for that is a big NO. Phaser is for 2D games. So if you want to make a 2D game, you can go for Phaser.
  2. Unreal Engine demands a PC with high spec. For unreal engine, the minimum requirement is a PC with 8 GB ram and a graphics card(NVIDIA GeForce 470 GTX or AMD Radeon 6870 HD series card or higher which would cost a minimum around 3k). On the contrary, for Phaser, what you need is a pc regardless of it’s confguration with a text editor(that can even be the notepad), any web browser and a phaser support which anyone can get directly from here.
  3. Till now, Unity does not support the Real JavaScript, instead it has its own language called UnityScript. So anyone who knows javascript, it won’t be enough and you have to learn UnityScript. So for that case, Phaser is better.
  4. BuildBox is used by those who does not wants or knows coding but still wants to build games. For those who wants to make their very own coded Games, Phaser welcomes them.
  5. Prerequisites to learn Phaser are HTML and JavaScript.

There are some games which are famous and are build on Phaser, you can check them on internet. They are -

And more.

If you want to learn phaser, the best option is their own documentation. Other options include learning from YouTube of course and also there are some sites like codecademy which help you learn Phaser. You can also get the them here as a documentation.

Not enough enthusiastic yet?

Go through their official site and I’m sure you will be!

And before you think of asking, no I am not getting any profit from this. I think Phaser is something worth getting famous that is why I am letting you guys know about it.

Please do clap if you liked it.

Thank you.

See you soon :)
