Hello and welcome,
I would like to introduce myself, I’m Miss Scarlett, a Montessori teacher and part owner of BW Droxford Montessori School. I’ve studied and worked in Montessori schools in the South East of England for the past 8 years. Montessori is a huge passion of mine; I’m looking forward to sharing it with everyone through this blog and would be delighted to answer any questions or queries you may have. Everyday I’m as excited to discover and learn new things as I was as an 18 year old student.
At university I had studied primary teaching, and began to doubt my career choice before finding the practice of Montessori. For me, the primary curriculum seemed rigid and irrelevant to the children’s daily lives, with an unnecessary formality. A friend (the lovely Miss E) asked if I could help out at her Montessori school for a couple of weeks.
At 9 o’clock, the children filed in with enthusiastic and curious faces, they immediately set about exploring the classroom calmly and quietly, mixing their own colours in the art area, helping themselves to milk in dainty ceramic tea cups and they spoke to each other with the uttermost politeness and respect.
From my point of view, these children were happy and content and I was taken aback by their self-control and motivation. I then knew I needed to know more, I changed my university pathway and wrote my dissertation on Montessori. I haven’t looked back since.
