The problem with proportional representation is that the small party will hold balance of power, achieving a weight not proportional to the number of people actually supporting them.
Many criticise Conservatives for an agreement with DUP not realising that this would be a norm in case of proportional representation.
Look at examples in other countries. Why do you think in Israel, a country that has to conscript women to its army, being heavily outnumbered by their neighbours bent on destroying them, still don’t conscript religious students? The answer is simple — small religious, single-issue parties (like Shas) hold balance of power after each election, because they have proportional representation.
Do we really want to have the same system in the UK? The system when because a small one-issue party will be able to push the issue through the Parliament while overwhelming majority of population disagree with them?
