Thoughtworks is the company that pays Martin Fowler (he has one of those jobs with them when he does talks and speeches and the company uses his name to sell “bodies” to the customers).

The managers usually like pair programming because it allows them to control developers better and put developers into the “right place”. They imaging that it makes developers interchangeable.

Unfortunately, there are many companies that make pairing mandatory 100% of time. Usually these the the companies which heavily promote the idea of pair programming.
