Moms and Millennials: Two Markets for a Quick-Serve Restaurant

What is a quick-serve restaurant? McDonalds, Wendy’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, etc. Those are all quick-serve restaurants. Quick-service restaurants appeal to a number of target markets. There are two specific groups that are the most valuable to these types of establishments; they are moms and millennials.

Who Are Millennials?

The millennials are the group of individuals born in the 80’s and 90’s who approached young adulthood by 2000. This group of people account for 80 million of our population. They are responsible for a huge portion of the quick-serve industry.

What makes the millennials so important to the quick-serve industry?

  • Millennials don’t cook much.
  • Millennials visit fast food restaurants more than any other age generation.
  • Millennials spend their income on fast food more than any other age generation.

Based on these facts, it does not mean that either of these groups will be running to your restaurant. The millennials are a unique group who expect to be valued. They have unusual tastes, such as a unique, creative and innovative restaurant design for socializing.

Moms Are a Huge Market for Quick-Serve

Moms, on the other hand, are another huge target market. They are looking for value, convenience and health. When it comes to food and purchasing products that support a cause, health or value, moms are the primary decision maker. They also like to be socially engaged through the Internet and mobile devices. In this way, they are similar to the millennials, which is another reason why social networking should be in place for quick-serve restaurant.

Social Media and Your Customers

Customers of all markets exposed to social media and news stories are likely to spend more at quick service restaurants. Customers who were exposed to social media and TV commercials are twice as likely to increase consumption. People exposed to social media and billboards were twice as likely to spend more at quick service restaurants.
