Borussia Dortmund vs Monaco preview

The Champions League is back this Tuesday

Dortmund are suffering from a major injury crisis that doesn’t seem to evade them every single year. They got slaughtered on the weekend by Bayern Munich and it doesn’t look like they’re going to reach anywhere above their previously set goals as they host the most prolific side in Europe this Tuesday.

Mario Gotze is out for the season and possibly never returning again to professional footbal, while Marco Reus, who is also struggling with injuries should be back and ready for the game. Thomas Tuchel will sweat on the fitness of Julian Weigl, whose role in the team is arguably of the biggest importance especially for big games as well as Andre Schurrle, Shinji Kagawa and Eric Durm.

Monaco will need to find a way to cope without Tiemoue Bakayoko who is suspended, but Kamil Glik will return at the heart of his team’s defence.

Radamel Falcao and Kyliann M’bappe are expected to start in attack for Monaco, having proved a successful combination in attack throughout the season.

For Dortmund, it is expected that Thomas Tuchel will abandon the three-man midfield that failed miserably against Bayern Munich on the weekend and revert back to 4–1–4–1 should Weigl return to full fitness on time.

The third place in the Bundesliga is still a possibility for Dortmund and it’s possible that them saving their strength for Monaco was at fault for the bad display against the Bavarians. Dortmund are doing everything to raise the club’s profile at the moment and there is no better stage to do it than the Champions League.

However, Monaco are in a much better form and the free-scoring French side are still favorites for the two legs having overcame the likes of Manchester City to get this far in the tournament.

Verdict: This encounter promises a lot of goals especially because of the both teams’ potency in attack and their leaky defence. Follow live events from the match and chat with fellow football fans on this link!
