You are too smart to be unaware of the potentially destructive effect that watching porn can have on a person. Of course it CAN bring pleasure and happiness, but it doesn’t always. Besides that, pleasure and happiness aren’t the same thing! Since I’m sure you’re not blissfully unaware of this, I’m curious: for what purpose did you only describe the intended use, as opposed to the myriad results of said use? Wouldn’t it have been more accurate, and thereby in better support of your article, to say that makeup and porn are sought out in order to bring pleasure and happiness, rather than asserting that they do without noting that they frequently don’t?
I’m neither a trained writer or editor, so I’m very curious. Did it not seem relevant? Did you have a reason for comparing porn to a far more (but not completely) innocuous luxury like makeup? Did the sentence in question seem like an insignificant part of the overall article? Was the portrayal of porn as an innocuous happiness generator intentional or unintentional?
Medium has provided me an opportunity to occasionally ask writers who actually know what they’re doing, why they’re doing it. Thanks in advance if you take the time.
