You are on the right path, but not quite there. Entertainment is luxury. Fundamental human needs are… needs. Needs are quantifiable. Calories equal survival. Luxury has a parabolic value arc because the more you have the more you want.
Your philosophy is strained and would unravel. You see the foolishness in entertainment, but praising doctors is not much better. Plato was right, I think, in spotting a diseased society with the number of doctors and lawyers. At least athletes are interesting. I can’t stand Doctor Oz.
