Are you sure you are right about the fact that Apple gets $3 per month from Spotify? The way I understood, and I could be wrong, is that Apple made 30% of the download price. So if Spotify charged $10 to download the app, Apple would receive a one time payment of $3 and Spotify would then go on collecting the full ~$10/month in premium service fees they charge the consumer. If what you say is correct, and I’m not saying it isn’t, but there is a very simple solution for Spotify to keep those $3 a month. All they would have to do is move to a web-based app. Just go to Spotify.com and stream from there. This is the way all apps are going anyway, why would Spotify not do this if they really were paying $3 bucks a month? There customer would barely notice a difference. You need an internet connection either way. You put a shortcut on your phone to the Spotify website, the site recognizes you and your userid and password and you are at the same experience as the app. I don’t know, if they are giving 3 bucks a month to apple, there must be a reason for it. Something does not add up here.
