Did I suggest the flow of the logic? Very likely those who are inclined toward violence will be attracted to virtual reality scenarios where that violence can be expressed. Once becoming heavily involved in such games, they start to lose touch with conventional human empathy and respect. Games like GTA allow the player to have sex with a prostitute and then kill her to get their money back. Many games involve killing innocent civilians or Police. Great way to teach young kids moral values.

They also in several surveys, they tied involvement with driving/racing games with driving infringements. That has even been used in court as a “mitigating” circumstance in a courtroom. The person claiming to have been distracted and monetarily thought they were in a VR game.

Still if you REALLY are interested in challenging your current mindset you can Google for reports on the relationship between violent games and increased teenage violence coupled with a lack of empathy. Early hits will refute such influence, later hits support it.

The American Psychological Association (APA), in an Aug. 13, 2015 press release titled “APA Review Confirms Link Between Playing Violent Video Games and Aggression,” available from apa.org, wrote:

“The research demonstrates a consistent relation between violent video game use and increases in aggressive behavior, aggressive cognitions and aggressive affect, and decreases in prosocial behavior, empathy and sensitivity to aggression…

[I]t is the accumulation of risk factors that tends to lead to aggressive or violent behavior. The research reviewed here demonstrates that violent video game use is one such risk factor.”
