If I had to confine myself to only commenting on conversations that I initiated I would abandon Medium immediately. These are not private conversations, they are very much public. The reason that Medium has a suggested reading list is to involve you in conversations they feel might interest you. If they are correct, and I am interested, then I will comment.

Those who get upset if their public statements attract response from the public should consider a different forum or method of communicating. Maybe email would suit them better. Whispering to one another perhaps?

If you are referring to the abortion post, then as that is an intensely polarised issue, with almost all people holding strong views, it demonstrates extreme naiveté to expect no critical responses. I have strong views, and while I respect women’s rights and accept that early abortion (prior to sentience) might sometimes be valid, abortion as backup birth control is abhorrent. It should not be for the purpose of fixing a “whoops” moment.
