When a part of society lives their lives surrounded by restriction, while living, loving, raising families, I think that chains provide an excellent “symbolic” metaphor. You seem to be objecting on a personal moral level — not liking the fact that a Black woman is included. If it was just a Black man in chains symbolizing racist attitudes in America would you still object? Are the problems face by Black people limited to only career, schooling, policing and housing, or do they extend to the core of all human existence, love and family?
As for my profile image, if you really need to segue into personal attacks — ok, go for it. It doesn’t affect me. The photo was taken in the eighties, and you will notice that I clearly identify as a Baby-Boomer, so I doubt many will think that it is a current image.
Regarding “ flying in and out of people’s writing” that is a part of Medium’s function. Feedback on posts. Would you rather a nice “politically correct” forum where everyone liked all posts and withheld all critiques? If so, you might be in the wrong place.
Finally, as you seem to have a problem with me following you — I will oblige and unfollow you. I had initially followed you as I have a deep interest in many of the issues that you seem to become so volatile about. But que sera.
