Hey John, that’s pretty interesting. For much of my early years I wasn’t much of a coffee drinker. This was mostly due to the absolute crap that passed for coffee — Folgers, Maxwell House, etc. It was only after experiencing so-called “premium” coffee that I realized that there was a real difference out there. This coincided with the time when my job had me traveling on overseas assignments and I discovered the joy of excellent after-dinner coffee with colleagues and clients.

Eventually I sprang for a decent espresso machine so I could enjoy a coffee or two late in the late afternoon or evening. Since my wife doesn’t like coffee, this was a solo break in the day’s activities. Being able to buy a pound of fresh-roasted dark oily beans at a local co-op is a bonus, though I’ve enjoyed some great mail-order roasts.

For me, coffee was never about the caffeine hit, but rather the enjoyment of a good-tasting drink. Nothing like a strong double espresso with a nice crema and a shot of cream.

Aside: Hi tech meets coffee here.

Thanks for your continued life stories.
