Yes, We Live on Ohlone Land. But What Does That Mean?
Tommy Alexander

Thank you Tommy. I grew up first in Sunnyvale, then Loyola, Los Altos, the lived for over 30 years near Old Ohlone school. We learned that “Indians” once lived on this land and we were taught that the missionaries were benevelent by “educating” the Native Americans whose land they appropriated. It wasn’t until much later and time spent reading that I learned of the horrible truth. The tribes that lived here were pastoral and, as you noted, reverent of nature. The best thing to happen to Father Serra was when some kids hung an old tire from his pointing finger on I-280 and Crystal Springs so that it resembled a yo-yo.
