What a fascinating and positive essay. The accompanying photographs were so informative and perfectly illustrated your point.

I roomed with several young black men in the 60s when I was in the military in Germany, and they all fit your descriptions perfectly as they dressed similarly to the men in your photos: bolder colors, bow ties, and stylish hats. One in particular was well over six feet and slender, and when he dressed up in an ivory suit, it not only accentuated his dark skin tones, it made him look like a true Victorian gentleman.
