Really interesting read, Haukur. I see your struggle.

I think there’s an ignorance and laziness in English speaking countries for seemingly ‘unpronounceable’ names. Not only that, this attitude has come to be expected, so when someone introduces themselves to me and says, “Hi my name is ‘insert hard to say name’, but you can call me David.”, I have to say no, it’s fine, I’ll make the damn effort to pronounce your name, because 1. It’s your name! And 2. by the same token, I’m often called ‘Seen’, with those not familiar with my name (and sometimes those, who are just for fun). Seems like an easy enough name to me. I say good on your wife for sticking to her guns. One thing I can say for sure is, a change in name can be absolutely liberating. Change your name if it feels good, and right, but don’t do it because people are ignorant and lazy.
