I get that Trump is an authoritarian, but he’s an authoritarian in the American populist Jacksonian tradition. We haven’t seen a populist win in a while, but this is nothing new. It’s not Italian Fascism light. Trump has no paramilitary blackshirts. Trump isn’t usurping dictatorial powers any more than Obama did, which is to say not much. There’s been no state control over industry or commerce any more than has historically existed. There is literally nothing that resembles the rise of Fascism and National Socialism we saw in the early to mid 20th century. Maybe there’s been a resurgence in nationalism and anti-immigrant sentiment, but we’ve also been there before.
I’m not saying it’s wrong to oppose Trump or his policies. But this is not a national emergency like Italy andGermany faced in the aftermath of the First World War.
But you keep right along believing what you believe, and accusing people who disagree with you of being white supremecists. Who am I to interrupt my opp0onent when he’s in the middle of making a mistake?
