Senator McConnell has Turned the Senate into a Legislative Graveyard
Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans have turned the Senate into a legislative graveyard. Under Senator McConnell’s watch, the Senate has not even considered a bill on the floor in weeks — instead, Republicans have spent the American people’s time confirming radical, unqualified nominees who all too often have not even been vetted by the Trump White House.
The American people need action on critical priorities: universal background checks; protecting their health care; securing our elections from foreign interference; and more. But unfortunately, instead of bringing the legislation to the Senate floor for vote and debate, Senator McConnell — the self-proclaimed “Grim Reaper” — has refused to act on the more than 300 House-passed bills sitting on his desk.
The bills passed by the House and stuck in Senator McConnell’s legislative graveyard include:
- For the People Act
- American Dream and Promise Act
- Paycheck Fairness Act
- Bipartisan Background Checks Act
- Climate Action Now Act
- Rehabilitation for Multiemployer Pensions Act
- Raise the Wage Act
- Protecting Americans with Preexisting Conditions Act
- ENROLL Act
- MORE Health Education Act
- Enhanced Background Checks Act
- Violence Against Women Reauthorization
- Save the Internet Act
- FUTURE Act
- Securing America’s Federal Elections Act
Over and over again, Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans have buried critical legislation to help working Americans.
But Senate Democrats are fighting back, taking to the Senate floor, day after day, demanding these bills be passed by the Senate.
We won’t stop until we get the Senate working for the American people.
