Hello!

I’m William Hughes and I’m a Programmer at Firebox Games. I and two other good friends have started work on our first videogame and I felt it wise to create this blog so I write regular (more like irregular) posts in regards to the development of our videogame.

So, what are we actually working on? I can’t actually tell you at this point in time as we’re still in the very early stages of production and haven’t got as far as finishing our documentation (although we’re pretty close). However, I thought it’d be pointless to introduce this blog and not give some form of information regarding the videogame; so I will.

Firstly, it will be an open-ended role playing game where the gameplay is heavily influenced by player choices…and oh, yeah, it’s 2D! Secondly, in terms of the technical aspect of the videogame, we’re using C# and XNA, alongside Photoshop for the Art. I also was kind enough to add support for a Level Editor which integrates directly into our engine and supports both levels compiled into the content pipeline alongside loading a runtime for support of User Generated Content! Firebox Games only consists of three people (Programmer, Level Designer, Artist) therefore we had to create something that was feasible and wouldn't require money that we don’t have (we’re students, shit is rough) therefore the idea we have is unique, fun and most importantly feasible with our resources.

I’m going to eventually write some follow up posts where we’ll (or I will) review the progress of our videogame, and potentially write some more technical oriented posts as to how we created certain features. So, that will conclude this post and despite the fact it was pretty dull, I hope you enjoyed reading it and I can promise (kind of) that these will get better as we progress further into the development phase. ❤
