BJP: Anti–Bangladeshi movement to kick off from Jorhat


Guwahati, May 28: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today announced that it will soon be starting a movement against the illegal Bangladeshi immigrants in the state and this movement would be kicked off from Jorhat.

The announcement was made by party MP from the Jorhat LS seat, Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, as the party gathered at the city’s Machkhowa ITA to celebrate Bijoy Divas for its recent victory in the Lok Sabha polls. While making the announcement, Tasa stated that there is a severe identity crisis going on in the state due to the huge presence of the Bangladeshi immigrants here and the immigrants have to be thrown out at all cost. He stated that the movement would begin from Jorhat and would soon be carried out in each district of the state with each passing phase. Tasa also said here that Central funds come in for Assam each year, but nothing is done in terms of development. He stated that this was due to the rampant corruption prevalent under the ruling state government and the party will struggle against it.

Also speaking at the do was State BJP President and newly appointed Union Minister of State, Sarbananda Sonowal, who said that people have lots of hope pinned on the seven elected MPs from the state and that they are all committed to working for the all round development of the state. Sonowal also stated here that Assam has many good sports persons who never make it to the national limelight due to various reasons. He said that efforts would be made to bring them to the limelight and give them the recognition they deserve. He said in this regard that prominent sports organizers and outfits would be consulted over the matter.

Sonowal further said that the party would be stressing on equal development of all regions of the state and noted that the Barak Valley is plagued with a lot of problems in particular. He stated that the BG Railway Line in the Barak Valley and the Bogibeel Project in Dibrugarh district would be definitive steps in this regard. He also stated that completing the Murkongselek BG Railway Line soon is also one of the prime objectives of the party in the state.

A felicitation programme was organized at the Bijoy Divas function by the State BJP committee which was attended by the party’s Assam observer Sudhanshu Mittal. Apart from Sonowal and Tasa, other BJP MPs from the state like Bijoya Chakravarti, Ramen Deka, Rajen Gohain, Ram Prasad Sarma and Rameswar Teli were also felicitated.
