Minor burned to death

IMPHAL, February 6: One eight-year-old girl was burned to death when over 30 shops and houses were gutted yesterday at Litan in Ukhrul district. The dead girl was identified as Julie Vasum, daughter of Sochi Vasum of Sareikhong. Officials say that properties worth over Rs 2 crore had been burned to cinders. The lone fire tender from Ukhrul could not control the raging fire. Three fire tenders from Imphal rushed there. However, they could not reach there in time with the result that the shops and houses could not be saved. The cause of fire is not known. However, it is believed that it must be either short circuit or fire started for cooking fodder for the pigs.

District Collector and elected members visited the area. They distributed some relief materials to the victims. However, no relief camp was opened so far.
