Modi aims to develop NE as an ’organic State’

NEW DELHI, June 11: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that all the northeastern States should be developed as an “organic State” to help the region enter the global market of organic products. He has also urged the students’ fraternity of the country to visit the region.

Giving the example of Sikkim, Modi said the State has already got recognition in organic farming. “We have a small State called Sikkim, but it is set to become the country’s first wholly organic State, and we should try to make the entire northeastern States as an organic State,” said Modi while replying to the debate on the motion of thanks on the President’s address in the Lok Sabha.

Modi said there is a massive demand of organic agricultural products across the globe. “A large section of the world’s population today is interested in holistic healthcare, and is willing to pay any amount of money for such organic products,” he said.

“If a small State like Sikkim can do it, why can’t we dream of developing the whole of north–east as an organic State? The government will utilize its machineries in capturing the global market,” he said.

In his speech, Modi urged the students from college and universities across the country to visit the northeastern States.
